I currently work in the Governor’s Office as a budget and policy analyst. I know, what the heck is that? Basically, I work with business and labor related agencies and their budgets, policies, and legislative issues to bring them in compliance with the Governor’s initiatives and priorities.
I work with the following agencies:
Alcohol Beverage Control, Public Service Commission, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Workforce Services, Labor, and Commerce.
It sounds like an important job, but really I am the go-between guy that tells the agency what the Governor wants and tell the Governor what the agencies want. I track legislation, I track budgets, I review and prepare analyses on existing and proposed programs, and I help draft both the Governor’s budget recommendation presented to the legislature and the annual budget summary.
Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? The truth is I like to be in the middle of things and I truly enjoy the people I work with. It is amazing how well the government officials and the government branches work together in Utah to find consensus and establish goals. I’m fortunate to be a part of that.
